The First Wave of Maqoor Academy: 30 Youth

In the latter half of 2024, Maqoor Academy went on a journey to educate and empower Armenia’s youth in environmental stewardship. Now, as we celebrate the graduation of our first cohort, we’re proud to highlight the achievements of over 30 dedicated students who have become leaders for sustainable change in their communities.

Throughout the program, participants engaged in comprehensive lessons covering critical environmental topics such as climate change, deforestation, waste management, and sustainable agriculture. They also developed practical skills in project writing, community mapping, environmental journalism, and understanding the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Beyond the classroom, the Academy created a space for peer-to-peer learning and dialogue. Students shared perspectives from their towns and villages, discussed challenges unique to their regions, and collaborated on small-scale solutions they could take home and implement. These conversations helped connect urban-rural gaps and sparked a more profound sense of solidarity among the participants.

This impactful curriculum was made possible through collaborations with esteemed partners, including the U.S. Embassy in Yerevan and professionals from the Zangezur Copper and Molybdenum Combine. Their contributions provided students with valuable insights into environmental challenges and solutions both locally and globally. The program’s success is further demonstrated by two graduates who joined the Maqoor team and contributed to strategic planning and outreach initiatives. Each participant received an official Maqoor Academy certificate, indicating their commitment to environmental advocacy and leadership.

As we look ahead, Maqoor Academy remains dedicated to expanding its reach and promoting a growing network of young environmental leaders across Armenia.
